The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity has sent out a thank you message the big hearted person who donated £500 to the fund.
The anonymous donation was made this week but as no contact details were included, fund raisers have been unable to express their gratitude.
It arrived on the same day as staff and volunteers at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust, Wirral, were taking part in a Christmas jumper day to raise funds and spread some festive cheer among patients.
It doubled the amount raised on the day, and now charity workers want to thank the shy and very generous donor.
Katrina Bury, Head of The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity, said: “It was such a lovely surprise to receive an anonymous donation of £500.
“Unfortunately, as there was no name supplied, we are unable to write and acknowledge this wonderful gift and so would like to thank whoever it was for their generosity and thoughtfulness. Your gift is very much appreciated by everyone at Clatterbridge.
“It is rare to receive such large anonymous donations and we are extremely grateful.”
The donation comes as The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity strives to raise £15m towards the building of a new £157m specialist cancer hospital in Liverpool city centre, due to open in 2019.
A significant investment will also be made in the site in Wirral.
